Trail Makers: 100 Years of the Northville-Placid Trail

Thursday, July 11th, 7pm

One hundred years ago Edwin "Doc" Noyes, and Howard Rowe cleared the way for the Northville-Placid Trail, a remote backcountry trail taking hikers on a journey through the heart of the Adirondacks. Join Conservator and Collections Manager of the Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, Doreen Alessi-Holmes to learn about the history of this roughly 138 mile trek across the Adirondacks.

All lectures begin at 7pm at the Adirondack Interpretive Center and are free thanks to the support of the Adirondack Park Institute.

Celebrate Theodore Roosevelt’s Legacy in the Adirondacks

TR Weekend is Newcomb's premier event, celebrating Theodore Roosevelt's remarkable journey from the High Peaks wilderness to the White House after President McKinley’s assassination in Buffalo, NY. The weekend features a wide range of events for all ages, from outdoor activities and historical tours to crafts, music, and delicious meals. The event brings the community together to honor Roosevelt's legacy and experience the beauty of Newcomb and the Adirondacks.

  • 11:00 AM: TR Talks about his Youth in the Adirondacks at the Adirondack Interpretive Center.

  • 1:30 PM & 3:30 PM: Santanoni Gatehouse Tour with Chuck Higgerson at the Santanoni Gatehouse.

Food Information:

  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Students will be offered Dinner in the School Cafeteria.

  • Saturday and Sunday morning: NCS students will be offered Breakfast starting at 7:00 AM at the Overlook Pavilion.

  • Saturday: Lunch will be offered by the Newcomb Helpers Fund at the Overlook Pavilion.

Join us to look for songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, and other feathered creatures. Guest birders James Mills and Emily Reichert will be your guides for a walk along the Rich Lake Marsh on the Huntington Wildlife Forest. This walk is along a mostly level dirt road and great for beginning birders. Binoculars are available thanks to Northern New York Audubon. Space is limited. Registration required. Explore the Science behind the Solar Eclipse at the AIC

Adirondack Science Exploration: Eclipses Unveiled!

Explore the science behind eclipses with kids of all ages at the Adirondack Interpretive Center on Saturday and Sunday, April 6th and 7th from 10-4. Walk a scale model of the solar system, make a pinhole viewer to safely view the eclipse, see how the tiny moon can block the huge sun, and build a model that shows why we don’t have eclipses very often.

Join us during Adirondack Water Week for an introduction and workshop developed from Wool and Water - a collaborative data art project of the Paul Smith's College Adirondack Watershed Institute which uses fiber art to illustrate issues affecting our Adirondack waterways and to inspire their careful stewardship. We will learn about the project and ways to get involved, and we'll dive into an activity that gives you a taste for combining data and art. No experience necessary. "Fall for Schroon" Festival and Car Show

The 4th Annual "Fall for Schroon" Festival & Car Show is back October 19th!

Stop by Schroon Lake and enjoy the festivities that include: Classic Cars, Food Trucks, Live Music, Fall Farmers Market,  Vendors, and so much Family Fun! The Car Show starts at 10am and Family Fun is from 12 pm-3 pm.
