Three hilarious classic comedies starring Charlie Chaplin
Event Details:
The Strand Theater presents three hilarious classic comedies starring Charlie Chaplin, with live piano accompaniment by Ben Model. Before establishing his infamous and beloved “little tramp” screen person, Chaplin made a few dozen slapstick shorts that set his antics in different workplaces and social situations. The program features some of the best from his 1916-17 series for the Mutual Company:
In THE RINK (1916), Charlie is a waiter who makes a mess of his orders and a wild roller-skating party, in THE IMMIGRANT (1917) he “comes across” looking for a better life in America, and Charlie is tailor’s assistant who impersonates a nobleman at a society party in THE COUNT (1916). Renowned silent film accompanist-historian Ben Model will introduce the films and will accompany them with his own scores on piano. Model will also be selling and signing copies of his new book, “The Silent Film Universe”.
About Ben Model:
Ben Model is one of the nation’s leading silent film accompanists, performing on both piano and theatre organ. Over the past 44 years, he has created and performed thousands of live scores for silent films at universities, museums, and historic theaters, and is one of the few exponents of this craft who is working at it full-time. Ben is a resident film accompanist at the Museum of Modern Art (NY) and at the Library of Congress’ Packard Campus Theatre, and he accompanies silents at classic film festivals around the USA and internationally.
